The AI in EU game to give my allies a prov no matter how many stars I have Posted on March 8th, 2010

In my recent game with Russia I was attacked by Turkey. I snatch 2 provinces along the black sea with my border armies, n my polish ally took Podolia. I have 5 stars n only demand that Turkey cedes Podolia to Poland (this will give me a nice, defensible natural border. Turkey REFUSES! I take two more Turkish provs, now have 6 stars but Turkey still refuses. I eventually go for a white peace. Thinking of it Ive never managed to get the AI to give my allies a prov no matter how many stars I have. Has anyone else noticed this? Read the rest of this entry »

What will the impact be with my military alliance partners in EU game Posted on March 5th, 2010

Is the trick to staying alive, in the early 1700’s, making peace with Sweden? I haven’t made peace yet and I end up paying for it with a two front war with Sweden and Holstein. Unfortunately I’ve been coming out on the losing end so far. What will the impact be with my military alliance partners? Any help is appreciated!

Well i haven’t played with denmark yet. But i think peace is the best thing, since i don’t think denmark has the economy or the manpower to defeat Sweden and all their great leaders. Usually when i play sweden i have a leader in almost every army.

Go south first! I’m playing Denmark now, and I took Holstein/Hansa (mil.ax.), Pommerania (dip.ax.) and Brandenburg (inherited) before I turned to Sweden. These provinces are rich and populous, and give an excellent base to conquer Sweden. I allways stab them in the back when they are busy and tired of fighting the russiands. Battle without DOW in Europe Universalis game Posted on February 27th, 2010

Here’s something that happened to me recently, that I would have thought impossible: I am playing IGC2.3 as Portugal. Happily exploring the Brazilian coast; working from Recife southwards with Camoen in charge of the expedition. He makes it to Curitiba and then Uraguay with no problems. The Treaty of Tordesillas is in effect, and I have no with to anger Spain at this point, so I’ve been cautious not to place any colonists or traders in Spanish Territory. I order Camoen westwards from Uraguay to explore the Terra Incogita there. Ooops, Spanish territory of Parana. That’s OK, I’ll just slip back to Uraguay. Camoen almost makes it back to Uraguay when a Spanish army arrives in Parana and attacks him!! This can’t be right, so I order Camoen to retreat. Then a battle commences between the Spanish and the natives in Parana. So, what happened? Did Camoen simply get “caught” in the crossfire of the Spanish/native battle? I wouldn’t have thought that a battle could take place between two forces without a DOW. Doesn’t the ToT only allow the capture of unfortified provinces, NOT the right to attack military forces?

Happens to me all the time. I have also seen Spain seige a fortified province of mine for a few days that I took from the Aztecs then they left. Not all true Vulture. I have had my English army occupy a neutral province (in Asia) with France while we were both at peace. Of course France kept throwing me into battle with the natives, but I digress. If you go into any of the territories given to Spain by the ToT then Spainish armies can attack you, I think the same applies for Portugal but I’ve had it happnen. Read the rest of this entry »

Other kings in EU game have a higher military rating Posted on February 24th, 2010

I was playing the Hansiatic League, and had an alliance with Poland, who asked me to help them out against the Turks. I obliged and sent some men to help them. I repeatedly got beaten by the Turks, even though they had less men then me every time. The war dragged on, and I noticed my province rebellion risk started having that war weariness modifier, when Spain and her allies all declared war on me (yes, I’ve been a very bad boy). Again, I had superior numbers on most encounters (and well balanced armies I might add, not just infantry) and Spain, and her dispicable allies Lorraine, Cologne and Scotland kept beating me. I looked at the save file. I had the same military tech as everyone (except Turkey…I was one higher than them). I had superior numbers. Why did I keep loosing? The only things I can think of are, other kings have a higher military rating (usually way higher than my Hansetag anyway), as for the second war, maybe my troops were just tired. I don’t know. Are these guesses correct? Read the rest of this entry »

France game strategy: the strongest country in the game Posted on February 23rd, 2010

I tend to take Flanders and Hainault in the first Spanish war (casualties should be very light), and don’t take Andalusia until the third war, about 1503. I stopped taking Toledo, if I want gold then I go for the Aztecs, Toledo is too much bother for the early game. But I also like to take the Netherlands early, since I take France to reformed as soon as possible and that negates the Dutch revolt factor, to almost zero. The provinces in southern England are worth taking, too, although you need an army to put down revolts. Helvetia instead of The Palatinate as an ally, but I like The Palatinate enough to woo them after they become reformed. Helvetia can be diplo-annexed by about 1504 and serves as a good base for operations against Austria and her allies; in the event of war their armies will always march into Helvetia and can be easily dealt with there, then I can overrun their provinces with siege armies.

Someone said France was the strongest country in the game, but I disagree. Turkey is much stronger in the short term, and if played properly it will bring better results than France. Read the rest of this entry »
